Entry:
Foreigner who intends to visit Nepal must hold valid passport or any travel document equivalent to passport issued by the Govt. for visiting a foreign country prior to apply for visa.
No foreigner is entitled to enter into and stay in the Kingdom of Nepal without valid visa. Tourist entry visa can be obtained for the following duration from Royal Nepalese Embassy or Consulate or other mission offices or immigration offices located on entry points in Nepal.
Chinese citizen are requested to apply in Royal Nepalese Embassy or other Nepalese diplomatic missions, as there is no provision of on arrival visa for them.

1. Visitors who are entering Nepal for the first time in a visa year (Jan-Dec):
Entries Fee:
- Single Entry US$ 30 for 60 days.
- Multiple Entry US$ 80 for 50 days.
- Visa extension fee US$ 30 for 30 days.
- Re entry visa fee** US$ 30 for 30 days.
- Children under 10 years need not pay visa fee.
If a visitor already visited Nepal and intend to visit again within same year (within Jan-Dec) can obtain entry visa paying US$ 30 for 30 days.

If a person stays in Nepal more than 15 days and wish to reenter same year (Jan-Dec) will get free visa. (NEW)
- Transit passenger will get free transit visa for 72 hours. (NEW)
Multiple entries will be valid for a visa year (150 days in a visa year).

2. For Shrilankan Pilgrims visiting to Lumbini can get single entry visa for 15 days in US$ 10 or equivalent convertible currency.

Tourist Visa Extension:
A tourist visa can be extended up to 120 days from the Department of Immigration in Kathmandu and Pokhara Immigration Office on request. Then after an additional 30 days can be extended from Department of Immigration on reasonable ground, which ensures one's departure from the country within 150 days in one visa year.
- Tourist visa extension fee and additional late fee are as follow:
- Visa extension without re-entry facility for 30 days: US$ 30 in equivalent Nepalese currency.
- Visa extension with multiple entry facility for 30 days: US$ 80 in equivalent Nepalese currency. One who has previously taken multiple re-entry facility in the same visa year will have to pay US$ 30 only.
- Late fee for regularizing tourist visa
- US$2 in equivalent Nepalese currency per day for the first 30 days.
- US$3 in equivalent Nepalese currency per day for the next 31 to 90 days.
- US$5 in equivalent Nepalese currency per day for more than 90 days.
- Fee exemption of tourist visa
- Children below 10 yrs.
Descendant's up to the age of 16 years, holding foreign passports, of Nepalese parents or either of their parents is a Nepalese citizen.
Citizen of Nepali origin, after having obtained passport for the first time from a Nepal based foreign mission, until the period of his departure to a foreign country.
Some Important information to tourist:
Visitor may stay in Nepal up to 150 days in a visa year (Jan-Dec).
Visitor must extend his/her visa before expiry of the visa validity period.
Visitor who does not comply with these regulations may be liable of fine and other prosecution as provided in Immigration Act and Rules.
A Foreigner having obtained tourist visa shall not be allowed working with or without receiving remuneration.
A foreigner shall not be allowed to carry out any work other than that for which purpose she/he has obtained the visa.
Trekking Permits and regulations:
Trekkers' Information Management System (TIMS) Card is must for all trekkings in Nepal. A provision of Trekkers' Information Management System (TIMS) has been implemented to control illegal trekking operations and ensure safety and security of the trekkers in general trekking areas through the mechanism of Prompt Information Service as and when required.
The provision of Trekkers' Information Management System (TIMS) has come into force from Jan 01, 2008. Trekking Agencies Association of Nepal (TAAN) and Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) have started recording trekkers detail and issuing TIMS Card to trekkers.
Where & how to obtain TIMS Card ?
The visiting tourists, who are interested to general trekking areas of Nepal, are required to receive TIMS Card through any one of the following:
- Kathmandu (NTB Office, TAAN Office, and Government registered trekking Companies)
- Pokhara (NTB Office, TAAN Office, and Government registered trekking Companies)
Opening Hour/s:
- TIMS counter at Government registered trekking Companies will remain open 12 hours a day all the seven days a week round the year
- TIMS counter at TAAN/NTB Office will follow government working hour/days.
- To obtain TIMS Card you need copy of Passport and two copies of Passport-size Photographs.
Why is TIMS Necessary?
The following considerations have been taken into account in the process of issuing TIMS:
All important details of trekkers and trekking routes shall be maintained on a computerized Database Management System that may be useful for safety and security of trekkers. To help carry out search and rescue operations for trekkers in case of natural calamities and other accidents by means of Authentic Information Service . To maintain a record system that includes personal details of trekkers, trekking area, trekking routes, handling agencies, duration, etc. The data generated from the system will be useful to all stakeholders:- tourism organizations, Government agencies, diplomatic missions, tour operators, research institute, etc.
Unauthorized trekking operations will be controlled, thus, resulting into better management of trekking service and in benefit of all concerned :- trekkers, agencies, field staff, Government, etc. and also occasional untoward incidents will be better prevented.
To upgrade the service standard and contribute for better management of sustainable mountain tourism development of Nepal.
TIMS REGULATORY PROVISIONS
Every trekkers has to compulsorily obtain a TIMS Card before they enter any of the prescribed trekking regions and routes.
A Free individual trekker (FIT) or organized group trekkers are required to keep TIMS along with them throughout their treks.
TIMS has to be shown to TAAN / NTB authorities, national park check posts, conservation area check posts and police check posts on demand.
Trekkers are required to keep their copies of passports along with them for verification during trekking.
TIMS shall be non-transferable, non-endorsable and valid only for single entry.
TIMS will not be required for:
The expedition members permitted to climb the mountains.
The visitors in the controlled areas permitted by the Department of Immigration.
The foreign guests invited by the Government of Nepal.
The authorities from different diplomatic missions in the country, who is holding official letter/s and traveling own risk .
Visitors on certain mission recommended by the concerned department of the Government.
Foreign Nationals having the residential visa.
For All other Activities:
For rafting you get the permit through the organizing agency.
For alpine climbing activities you need a permit, which you can get only through a Nepalese Trekking agency.
For Paragliding, fishing, hunting, scientific research you have to obtain a permit from the concerned ministries through an agency.
