Kusum Kangaru

The Kusum Kangru lies in the Khumbu Range of the Everest Region. The peak stands at a height of 6367 meters, and falls in the Category B of the NMA Trekking Peaks. The Kusum Kangu is a challenging climb, with at least five major ridges on the summit. The name Kusum Kangru means three snow god peaks in the Tibetan language referring to the triple faces of the summit. The mountain separates the Dudh Koshi Valley from the upper reaches of Hinku Drangka. A Japanese expedition team made the first successful ascent to this difficult peak in 1979.

The Kusum Kangru Mountain is very close to Lukla, and the northern ridge can be approached from Namche Bazaar. The southeastern face is approached from the Hinku Valley side.

Suggested Itinerary - South- East Ridge Route
Day 01: Fly Kathmandu to Lukla.
Days 02-06: Trek Hinku valley to South East base camp.
Day 07: Acclimatization day.
Days 08-14: Climb Kusum Kangaroo.
Days 15-17: Return trek to Lukla.
Day 18: Fly Lukla to Kathmandu.

Suggested Itinerary - North Ridge Route
Day 01: Fly Kathmandu to Lukla. Trek to Phakding.
Days 02-03: Trek Monjo-Kusum Kangaroo Base Camp.
Day 04: Acclimatization day at Namche.
Days 05-12: Climb Kusum Kangaroo.
Days 13-14: Return trek to Lukla.
Day 15: Fly Lukla to Kathmandu.

Maximum number of members in a team is 12.
Garbage deposit: A refundable garbage deposit has to be made for climbing any of the Group A & Group B category climbing peaks. The deposit mount of USD 250.00 must be deposited with the Nepal Mountaineers Association (NMA) which makes the refund according its provisions.

Each climbing team will fill up an application form provided by the NMA mentioning the partner trekking agency registered with the HMG and NMA and accompanied by a sirdar/guide registered with NMA.
The permit is valid for the period of one month only. The maximum number of the group size will be 12 persons.
An additional 25% charge of the total amount of the initial fee will be made for each extended week.
The leader or climbing member of the team must collect the permit in person from Nepal Mountaineering Association.
