Faith Healing
The practice of using religious or spiritual means such as prayer to prevent illness, cure disease, or improve health is known as faith healing. Those people who try healing with prayer, mental practices, spiritual insights, or other techniques say they can summon divine or supernatural intervention on behalf of the sufferer. According to the people who practice this faith healing is to gain gradual relief from the pain or sickness by bringing out the pain or sickness.

Nepal is a country where many people consult with local traditional healers for treatment when they suffer medical or other problems in life. People first consult with traditional healers before going to the hospital. They also believe it as a “miracle cure”, and it may be used in place of, or in tandem with, conventional medical techniques for alleviating or curing diseases.

Most Nepalis believe that victory and failure, good and bad, all depend not only on one’s efforts, investments and labor, but also on one’s luck. People believe that good spirit or atma comes from the gods and if they do not obey the gods, pains & sorrows come to them through the devils. Gods often give the healing power in a dream to a few chosen people. In Nepal, these people are called Dhami/Jhankri’ – the traditional healers. People are so deeply rooted within their tradition that during the times of trouble they first consult with their nearest traditional healers. Without the healers’ permission, they will not go to others even when medical services are available nearby.
