Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve
Dhorpatan is the only one hunting reserve of Nepal, spreading over an area of 1,325 square kilometers. It lies in the western part of Nepal below the Dhaulagiri range and touches Rukum, Myagdi, and Baglung districts.  The main objective of this reserve is to allow sport hunting and it also conserves the ecosystem of the western part of Nepal. The protected area of the reserve is surrounded by villages on all sides except in the north.  The villages are inhabited by hill tribes as well as people of Tibetan descent who supplement farming with trade and animal husbandry.

The vegetation of this area is characterized by well-developed mixed-hardwood forest at lower elevation and many plant species of drier climate in the north. Fir, pine, birch, rhododendron, hemlock, oak, juniper, spruce, among others are the kinds of trees available in the reserve. It is famous for its blue sheep.  The endangered animals found in the park include musk deer, wolf, red panda, cheer pheasant, and Danphe. Other animals found here are leopards, ghoral, serow, Himalayan Tahr, Himalayan black bear, barking deer, wild boar, rhesus macaque, langur, and mouse hare.

The reserve is one of the prime habitats for blue sheep, a highly coveted trophy. Other animals found are: leopard, goral, serow, Himalayan tahr, Himalayan black bears, barking deer, wild boar, rhesus macaque, langur and mouse hare.
