Architecture
The recorded history of Nepal begins form at least since 5th century AD. Innumerable historical sites, cities and monuments across the length and breadth of the country are there to testify the country’s rich cultural past. unique culture and traditions, the historical monument, art and architecture, Hindu temples and Buddhist stupa and monasteries, its people and rites, myths and mysteries which are a part of the daily life of the people made Nepal unique as well as different from other country.

The Kathmandu Valley itself is not only the political and commercial centre of Nepal, but also a historic and cultural site that preserves ancient arts, architecture and cultural lifestyle. The Durbar Square areas contain countless temples and architectural showpieces.

The popular Architectural styles of Nepal:Pagoda Style : Nepal's unique architectural contribution to the world. The pagoda style of architecture refers to multi-roofed structure with wide caves of the roof supported by carved wooden struts. Nepal is the only country having so many temples made in the pagoda style. Some of the pagoda style temples are Changu Narayan, Pashupatipath, Taleju, Kasthamandap, Nyatapola etc.


Stupa Style : Also known as Chaitya in Nepal. The stupa style of architecture is Buddhist in concept. The four sides of the square base are painted with pairs of eyes. The eyes represent the eyes of Buddha, the founder of Buddhism. Some examples of the Stupa style of architecture are Swayambhunath stupa, Bouddhnath stupa etc.


Shikhara Style: a tall pyramidal structure with five or nine sections. The famous example of this design is Krishana Mandir of Patan, Mahabouddha temple and Jagat Narayan temple in Patan, the Vatsala temple in Bhaktapur and the Gorakhnath temple in Gorkha.
